Fact Or Fiction
It is easy to confuse the truth with a repeated rumor. Rumors just like the truth tends to spread easily through the Internet. A reporter from the New York Times by the name of Sapna Maheshwari states that, “...some fake news is produced purposefully by teenagers in the Balkans or entrepreneurs in the United States seeking to make money from advertising, false information can also arise from misinformed social media posts by regular people that are seized on and spread through a hyperpartisan blogosphere”. Most fake news are for either entertainment or money reasons. Like the article involved in the New York Times a regular man posted something on the Internet that everyone had access to, and through both bias and miscommunication, this tweet went viral.
Although users of the Internet may take false information as being true, this can serve to confuse the Internet users when it involves a specific research topic. Having these rumors being seen in multiple sources tends to lend them credibility. The Internet is extremely vast and includes many different types of informational webpages from facts, opinions, and beliefs; there is plenty of legitimate information on the Internet, but that doesn't mean you can believe everything you read. Having a vast amount of information comes with many benefits, but a fraction of these informational sources contain incorrect information or a bias. Finding credible sources can help individuals develop new ideas and opinions that are free from misinformation.
